Managing Pacer Billing
When you use DocketBird to access your docket sheets and court documents, you'll incur Pacer's typical fees. Other than your monthly subscription fees, DocketBird does not charge you anything on top of these fees to access your docket sheets and documents.
There are two ways that you can pay Pacer fees when using DocketBird:
1. Your Pacer Account (recommended)
When you provide DocketBird with your Pacer username and password, DocketBird will use those credentials to access Pacer on your behalf. All fees that you incur by using DocketBird will then be billed directly to your Pacer account.
This is the recommended way to pay for your documents. By using this method, you'll enable DocketBird to user your case-specific client codes each time it accesses Pacer on your behalf. That will ensure that your Pacer bill accurately assigns charges to your client codes.
2. Credit Card (okay, but not recommended)
If you don't want to provide DocketBird with your Pacer username and password, you can instead use your credit card. When you do this, DocketBird will use its own Pacer username and password to access Pacer on your behalf.
When you use your credit card, you can choose to deposit whatever amount you want in your DocketBird account. DocketBird will withdraw funds from that account as it incurs Pacer fees on your behalf. You can also configure DocketBird to "reload" your account when it becomes low.
